Leo Lazarus, originally from Jackson, MS, is a Memphis-based singer-songwriter with influences including Toad the Wet Sprocket, Glen Phillips, Elliott Smith, Third Eye Blind and John Mayer. Leo began playing guitar around 1980 and wrote his first song, "The Echo," in 1990. Since that time, Leo has written over 30 original songs. This collection of songs provides the primary source of material for the CD.
Leo began performing around Memphis in the summer of 2000, beginning at the High Point Pinch open mic. Leo performed practically every Wednesay night for over a year before landing his 7+ year Tuesday night gig at The Flying Saucer in downtown Memphis. Leo performed an estimated 366 Tuesday night shows before retiring in November of 2008. Leo has also performed at other Memphis venues including all 4 T.J. Mulligan's, The Hi-Tone, Newby's, Neil's, The North End, Willie Moffat's, Kudzu's and a few other spots we can't remember. Leo has also performed at the world famous acoustic venue "Eddie's Attic" in Atlanta, GA as well as other venues from Little Rock, AR to Perdido Key, FL.
Leo uses a Taylor 814ce for live perfomances and a Martin SPD16T special edition acoustic for writing and studio work.
